Sons of The Devil
Brian Buccellato with art by Toni Infante.
This is a gritty title that starts off bloody with a man and a woman kidnapping babies in the middle of the night in some home while bludgeoning a man to do it. Upon the kidnapping of these children we notice something very unusual about one particular baby. We soon fast forward years later to a typical man walking his dog. Everything seems fine till he stumbles across a child that appears to be lost. This man talks to the child in an effort to find the rightful parents and although this ‘good Samaritan’ is able to finally return the child home his next problem is being late to work, which is not his first time but looks to be his last. This is where we find out several things, this man’s name is Travis, Travis doesn’t take kindly to bad news and Travis’s eyes happen to be discolored.Red/Blue(HETEROCHROMIA IRIDIUM) Travis head-butts his boss and leaves the shop.
We next come across an office where 2 men are talking. This office happens to be a foster home/orphanage center where a man named Klay, a birth parent locater is questioning a Dr. Landon, the head of the facility about how to find a gentlemen in a picture he has. Although it’s not quite apparent who the man in the picture is we do notice the discoloration of his eyes. One being red, the other being blue. Dr. Landon informs Klay he does remember an orphan like that and ensures Klay he will look into more information for him even offering Klay a business card for an orphan support group for his friend.
These next panels are very interesting as we find Klay waiting for Travis at his home. As the conversation escalates between the two Travis mentions how Klay pushed him away upon losing their parents. Travis mentions how he had no reason to stick around after that, learning that Klay’s parents must have adopted a young Travis. Klay continues on finally asking Travis about the man in the picture from before. They both are in agreement that man in the photograph happens to look identical to Travis minus the beard and longer hair, even down to the discolored eyes. This reunion is short lived however as cops finally arrive at the home ready to take Travis in for the attack on his boss earlier.
Travis is put on trial but gets off easy as the judge sentences him to community service and mandatory anger management classes for his actions. As a woman drops him off at home he has a moment to himself where he reflects on not only the picture of the man he received from Klay but also the orphan support group card he left as well. Travis takes it upon himself to reach out and visit his brother this night but is shocked when he arrives as he sees his brother murdered in his home. Shortly after Travis is also attacked from behind knocking him unconscious. Soon after Klay’s funeral Travis asks the woman to move in with him as he doesn't want to be alone and sincerely wants her with him. She comic ends in an equally shocking fashion as Travis finally calls up the orphan support group to begin classes. What makes this more unpleasant is the panel of the man on the other end of the line, as he has a man chained up and is marking some sort of symbol on his chest. Great way to begin and end a 1st issue!
This comic starts off intense and keeps you hooked throughout! I totally dig!
